Don was born August 15, 1923, in Muncie, IN, to John Dyson Main and Mary Margaret Hedges Main. He attended Anderson High School and earned a business degree from Indiana University in 1947, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and met his wife Carolyn Frances Smith Main.
A long-time resident of Marion, IN, Don and Carolyn moved to Nashville after his retirement from RCA in 1983. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf, traveling, and watching IU sports.
Mr. Main was a decorated WWII veteran, commissioned as 1st Lt. in the 87th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW Medal and Combat Infantry Badge while serving his country in France, Belgium and Germany.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John D. (J.D.) Main, and his wife Carolyn.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Cauble Main of Nashville; brother Richard Main of Anderson; sons, David (Donni) of Bloomington and Steve (Theresa) of Farmers Branch, TX; grandson, Patrick (Bloomington); and granddaughters, Meredith (Columbus) and Stephanie (Farmers Branch).
A private military graveside service will be conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.
