Mary “Marge” (Gorte) McMahon, passed away at age 95 Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a 22 year resident of Brown County and former resident of Indianapolis.
Marge was born January 27, 1917 in Maywood, IL to the late Alexander & Sophie Gorte. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Nolan J. “Mac” McMahon on April 25, 1998. They were married in July of 1936 in Maywood, IL.
Marge was cherished by her children: Rev. James E. McMahon of Indianapolis & Cheryl (husband, Tim) Gray of Brown County. She will be remembered by her three great grandchildren: Wes & Tiare Gray & Bree Fields and three great grandchildren: Autumn, Xander & Landon.
Marge was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Laura McMahon and one brother, Al Gorte.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Morgantown Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Marge was a past member of the Hickory Ridge Senior Center and attended the Neighborhood Church of God both of Brown County. She enjoyed playing the weekly lottery, rubbing scratch-offs and has been a poker player since the age of eight. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer and bowler. Marge was known as a “people person”. She loved spending time with friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 am until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood.
