Virginia Mae Gobel, Feb. 26, 2010

Virginia Mae Gobel, 78, of Columbus, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at her home.

Born May 28, 1931, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of George W. and Emma J. (Martin) Wainscott. She married Charles Francis Gobel, and he survives.

Other survivors include her daughter, Cathy Burton of Columbus; sons, Nick Gobel of Nashville, Kim Gobel of Shelbyville, Jim Gobel of Indianapolis and George Gobel of Bloomington; sister, Violet Ray of Shelbyville; brother, Richard “Hop” Wainscott of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Gobel was formerly employed at Cinch Manufacturing for several years.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, at the funeral home.
