Raymond W. Gray Jr., July 19, 2010—UPDATED

Raymond W. Gray Jr. died Monday, July 19, 2010, at his Nashville home. He was 86.

Mr. Gray was born August 2, 1923, to Raymond W. Gray Sr. and Lora (Smith) Gray in Evansville. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1943 until September 1946 and was stationed part of that time in New Guinea.

He was a graduate of Evansville College (now University of Evansville) and received his Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law.

Mr. Gray served as a law clerk with Justice Sherman Minton in the U.S. Supreme Court from 1951 to 1952 and was a litigation attorney with Barnes, Hickam, Pantzer and Boyd (Now Barnes and Thornbug) in Indianapolis.

He and his wife, Leona, became residents of Nashville in 1975 where he practiced law from 1978 until retiring in 2003.

He attended Nashville United Methodist Church and loved gardening, fishing, traveling and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Leona L. (Batteiger) Gray of Nashville; a son, Jim Gray (Lee) of Vancouver, Washington; a daughter, Heather Mollo (Steve) of Nashville; two grandsons, Justin Mollo (Jenna) and Evan Mollo; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Gray; an infant son, Timothy; and an infant daughter, Donna Lee.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Nashville United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service, also at the church.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville, with the Reverend Tom Heaton officiating.
