Wilma J. (Shaw) Watson died Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2010, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Formerly of Nashville, she resided at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was 79.

Mrs. Watson was born August 25, 1930, in Indianapolis to Herman E. and Hallie M. (Dinkins) Shaw Sr. She married Jesse L. Watson on August 27, 1979, in Byrdstown, Tennessee. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1999.

During the 1970s she worked part-time for the Brown County Democrat newspaper at at Old Hickory Restaurant in Nashville. She was a loving wife and homemaker and a 50-year member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

She enjoyed playing cards and leading Bingo at Franklin United Methodist Community, and was a fan of Indiana University basketball. She loved to read spiritual romance novels and enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting the hills of Brown County.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley A. Brown (Donald) of Elizabethtown, Mary Alice Jarrett (David) of Shelbyville and Wilma Fay Bain (Charles) of Bargersville; three sons, George David Watson of Greenwood, Ronald L. Watson (Cheryl) of Speedway and William Jay Watson (Christy) of Speedway; four sisters, Alberta Shrock of Nashville, JoAnn Leggins of Franklin, Christine McCurdy of Deltona, Florida, and Thelma Ditchley of Beech Grove; two brothers, Donald L. Sawyer and Norman Shaw, both of Indianapolis; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Others preceding her in death by were her parents; a sister, June Wilkerson; and a brother, Herman E. Shaw Jr.

The Reverend Mollie Clements will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation and Personalization Center in Morgantown. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
