    Mathis, William Dale photo 001William “Dale” Mathis, also known as “Footsie,” of Nashville passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his home. He was 93.

    Dale was born February 5, 1921 in Brown County to William and Mary Ann (McLary) Mathis. They preceded him in death.

    He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and on September 13, 1947, married Hilda Ann “Betty” Bond in Helmsburg. She survives in Nashville.

    Dale was a graduate of Indiana University and member of I.U. Alumni Association. He was a retired teacher and a member of Nashville Christian Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Brown County Lions Club. Dale also was instrumental in bringing Little League Baseball to Brown County in the early 1960s.

    A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 .m. on Thursday, August 21, at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home with the Rev. L.D. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.

    Survivors include his wife of more than 66 years, Betty Mathis, of Nashville; a daughter, Joyce (Mike) Boulton of Bloomington; a son, John (Amanda) Mathis of Nashville; four grandchildren Melissa Cordon of Bloomington, Matthew (Lara) Boulton of Indianapolis, Nathan Mathis of Nashville and Eliza (Jeb) Brester of Nashville; eight great grandchildren, Avery and Ella Cordon, Emilia Cordon-Cox, Andrew and William Boulton, Olivia and Sophia Mathis, and Kirby Brester; and a sister, Mary Jane Weisman.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harry, Ray, Sam, Richard and Maurice Mathis; and four sisters, Alpha Sipes, Laura Keaton, Eudora Steinke and Olive Steinke.

Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Carrie had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet very memorable life.

    She was born on May 5, 1973, in Columbus to her parents, Terry R. Miller and Susan K. (Carroll) Flesher.  Carrie was a 1991 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business from the Indiana Business College in Columbus. They preceded him in death. Carroll joined the US Army at the age of 18. He was a retired carpenter, a volunteer fire fighter for over 50 years, and was named Brown County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer of the Year in 2006.   • IURC rules customers can continue dialing 7 digits

    Trace glow lightThe Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has ordered that the permissive dialing period (i.e., seven digit dialing) for the 812 area code overlay remain in effect until otherwise ordered. Previously, the commission had scheduled mandatory 10 digit dialing beginning on September 6, 2014.
