    funeral flowerrsRichard W.  “Dick” Smith passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014.  He grew up in Madison, Indiana where he proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout.  He went on to earn a Fine Arts Degree from Indiana University.  He was a silver and goldsmith in the Chicago area before coming to Brown County where he and his wife have owned a jewelry store for 40 years.  He was very much loved by his family.     She graduated from Jefferson City High School (Tennessee), where she played on the basketball team. A hardworking lady, Sylvia worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for 52 years. She worked in the phone room, ticket office, and was the corporation’s first female terminal manager. Continue Reading

    obit-vaughtBertha Beatrice Vaught, 94, of Providence, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born May 27, 1920 to the late Chester and Verna Dallas on their farm south of Spearsville, Indiana. Mrs. Vaught graduated in 1938 from Morgantown High School and began work at Kingan’s meatpacking plant in Indianapolis where she almost doubled her weekly wage by consistently exceeding piecework standards. She married Clyde Vaught, Jr. on November 8, 1941 and remained loyal to him for the rest of her life. When Mr. Vaught returned from serving in Patton’s Army during World War II, she gave up her job to focus on being a full-time wife and mother. Clyde and Beatrice lived in Indianapolis, Trafalgar, Green Township (near Martinsville) and Providence. Continue Reading
